We are a group of medical students and residents in Canada who have created mentorship programs to help Canadian pre-meds.
Cate Giffin
Cate is an incoming 4th year medical student at the University of Manitoba where she is currently serving as Senior Stick of the Manitoba Medical Students’ Association. Originally from Vancouver, BC, Cate moved to Winnipeg in 2017 to finish her B.Sc. and start medical school. Her interests include cooking, mentorship, and building community in medicine!
Fiona Huang
Fiona is a first year medical student at UBC. Originally from Hay River, Northwest Territories, she pursued her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. Following that, she completed a Master’s degree in Health Science with a focus on Medical Physiology. Currently, she is working as an artificial intelligence intern for Bayer AG.
Buvani Sivagnanasunderam
Buvani is currently a medical student at McMaster University. Prior to this, Buvani worked as a Senior Policy Advisor for both Ontario and BC’s Ministries of Health and as a research coordinator for TechGirls Canada. Buvani holds a B.Sc. in Psychology and Health Studies from the University of Toronto and a master’s degree in Global Health from McMaster University. When she’s not working you can find her experimenting in the kitchen, crafting her next sewing project, or off on a travel adventure.
Rida Shaikh
Rida graduated from the University of Toronto with a Double Major in Immunology and Physiology. Some of her current interests are medical education, tutoring students, helping patients make healthy lifestyle changes, and making medical school more accessible to under-represented populations. Outside of school, she enjoys reading, baking, and bird watching.
Lakindu Somaweera
Lakindu is currently a second-year medical student at McMaster University. Before entering medical school, he completed 3 years of undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. Outside of school, he enjoys swimming, playing guitar, and reading fantasy novels. Fun fact: He has seen over 100 anime!
